Overview

Located on Holly Street in the heart of Austin, Gati Cafe offers a unique and inviting experience for those seeking both creative ice cream and thoughtfully crafted cafe fare. This cozy spot combines a laid-back atmosphere with a menu that caters to a variety of tastes, including vegan and gluten-free options, making it a welcoming destination for diverse dietary preferences.

The cafe shines with its innovative plant-based ice cream selections—flavors like Cookie Monster, Mint Chip, Lavender Caramel, and Brazilian Cheese Breads Pão de Queijo show a playful yet refined approach to frozen treats. Unlike traditional ice cream, their dairy-free versions bring forward distinctive and nuanced flavors without overwhelming sweetness. Whether you try the delicate floral notes of pandan or the bright zing of Texas peach, each scoop invites curiosity and delight.

Beyond ice cream, Gati Cafe surprises with bakery delights and small plates that balance comforting textures and complex flavors. Highlights include moist gluten-free muffins, coffee cakes, and the warmly spiced laksa, showcasing the kitchen’s flair for global influences and local ingredients. These offerings emphasize natural sweetness and deep, layered spice profiles, appealing equally to health-conscious diners and those simply craving satisfying bites.

The space itself supports casual yet memorable visits. With indoor seating and a welcoming outdoor area, plus the convenience of some parking spots, it’s easy to linger over a well-crafted scoop or a leisurely meal. The staff’s warmth and attentiveness reinforce the cafe’s community-minded vibe, reflected also in their “fair wage” pricing approach, aligning with Austin's thoughtful food culture.

Gati Cafe’s charm lies in its role as a neighborhood gem: a spot where dairy-free affogatos delight, where small plates carry bold, comforting flavors, and where unique ice cream flavors invite experimentation without alienating traditional palates. It’s a must-visit for anyone in Austin looking to explore a fresh take on cafe culture—with quality, kindness, and creativity all served in one place.

Very good Ice cream flavors and fair price. There is a “fair wage” fee, I suppose that’s an Austin thing. The store is very nice, and there is outdoor seating available and 5-6 parking spaces.

Such lovely, kind staff an a sweet little nook of a location. I had the hojicha matcha and laksa, and then took three treats home for later — a s'mores bar, a pumpkin muffin, and a slice of coffee cake. Everything was delicious! The baked goods were moist, had deep flavors, were not too sweet, and were enjoyed thoroughly by GF eaters and gluten lovers alike. The laksa was spicy, creamy, and warming. I know folks think of gati for their ice cream, but as a lunch spot and cafe it shines.

Rating: 4.1/5 [dine in] They have a lot of unique flavors, and everything is 100% vegan. The texture isn’t as creamy as regular ice cream, but the flavors and sweetness still come through. I liked that they had a self-serve water station too. They also sell pastries, ice cream sandwiches, and tubs you can take home. We went with the flower waffle cone, which comes with two big scoops of ice cream ($12.50). They also added a 15% fair wage fee which sounded high, but it came out to be $1.88. The cone itself was soft instead of crunchy, and the pressed flowers looked pretty even though they didn’t taste like much. It still paired nicely with the ice cream and gave a contrasting texture. For flavors, the Cookie Monster looked fun with its bright blue color but wasn’t as sweet as I thought it would be. The Pandan was the sweetest of everything we tried but still good, just definitely needed water after. The Texas Peach had the perfect level of sweetness and peach flavor. The Thai Coffee had bold flavors but wasn’t as strong as Vietnamese coffee. The Mint Chocolate Chip didn’t hit right though; my husband said it tasted weird.

Amazing little place. It’s the only place I’ve ever been able to get a dairy free affogato period but not only that they had Affogato flights!! I got to choose each of the different ice creams and they presented it so beautifully and I even got a cinnamon roll which they warmed up for me was so good. I had to get a couple of more treats to go with this will definitely be one of my go to places in Austin when I come back!

Wow! So good! We came here after a jazz show and let’s just say it didn’t disappoint. I had the coconut ash and coffee. Very tasty smooth and didn’t make to feel bloated. 10/10 Ice Cream

Tried out their new brunch menu and can’t wait to be back to try new things! Even though we don’t have any dietary restrictions, the menu feels like it delivers on all the foods without sacrificing best ingredients. Laksa was so creamy and flavorful and the umami in the congee from the miso next level. Perfectly jammy eggs! Tried a scone as well, which was interesting in the texture but had great flavor. Can’t wait to be back. Great coffee and service!
